Press Release
Hold tight folks whilst The Peoples’ Party goes One Louder on y’all with legendary New York post-hardcore titans Glassjaw. In town for one night only, we’ve snagged the exclusive Asian date for these punk behemoths, as they make their way to Australia (to play with Faith No More and Anthrax.) Result!
Glassjaw formed in the summer of 1993 when Daryl Palumbo (vocals) and Justin Beck (originally drums, then bass and now guitar) met each other at camp. Following numerous personnel changes over the years, the current four-piece line up is completed by drummer Durijah Lang and bassist Manuel Carrero.
Glassjaw burst into popular consciousness in 1999, when the band went into the studio with too-cool-for-school Producer Ross Robinson (Korn, At The Drive-In, Slipknot, The Cure) to record their debut album. The result, on Roadrunner Records, was the milestone post-hardcore release: ‘Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence’, which firmly established Glassjaw at the very forefront of the burgeoning scene. It was the sound of a generation, and has influenced an unfathomable number of artists and music fans alike since its release.
The follow up LP Worship & Tribute came in 2002, and was released through Warner Bros (once more with Ross Robinson at the helm.) Incorporating jazz and ambient elements into their songs, the album showcased a more mature and melodic sound, and cemented Glassjaw’s place as leaders and musical luminaries amongst the chasing pack.
Glassjaw then took a break whilst members concentrated on various other projects. Palumbo formed Head Automatica with Dan ‘The Automator’ Nakamura (Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School), and Carrero and Lang enjoyed success with punk popsters Saves The Day.
Fast forward to current day, and Glassjaw are back. Having returned with sold out shows in 2009, rumours are rife about the release plans for their highly anticipated third studio album.
Infamous for their fiercely intense live shows, Glassjaw have performed on the largest of stages throughout the world including the Warped Tour, Ozfest and Snocore; and have toured with the genres biggest stars (Deftones, Soulfly, Thursday, Brand New and many many more.)
HK audiences now have the rarest of chances to witness the undisputed legends of post-hardcore in the flesh.
Support for this show comes from special guests King Ly Chee. Fresh from their recent tour of China, and whom recently celebrated a whopping ten years together, the local hardcore kings continue to cement their place as one of Hong Kong’s finest musical sons.
Latest news: to compound the awesomeness of this show, we’ve just added Manila’s Chicosci to the bill. The five-piece rockers have released six albums, won just about every award there is to win in the Philippines, and, in short, PUMP. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce them to HK audiences for their first live show here.
